Who are the four Israeli women to be freed in the hostage swap with Hamas?

Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, and Naama Levy were apprehended together while working in a surveillance unit at the Nahal Oz military base near the Gaza border.

Four female soldiers kidnapped by Palestinians near the Gaza border on October 7, 2023, will be freed on Saturday under a ceasefire agreement with Israel, according to a list published by Hamas.

Liri Albag, Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, and Naama Levy were apprehended together while working in a surveillance unit at the Nahal Oz military base near the Gaza border.

Three other female soldiers were kidnapped alongside them: Agam Berger, who is currently being held in Gaza and is thought to be alive; Noa Marciano, whose body has since been returned to Israel; and Ori Megidish, who was released alive by the Israeli military in late October 2023.

Liri Albag, aged 19
Liri Albag was performing her military service on the Gaza Strip border when she was kidnapped from the Nahal Oz base.

According to press accounts, previously released hostages informed Albag’s parents that her captors forced her to cook, clean, and babysit.

According to the Jerusalem Post, she sent messages to her family via released detainees, instructing her sister Shai not to postpone her usual post-army trip and, most importantly, not to touch her favorite shoes.

In January, she appeared in a three and a half-minute film published by Hamas.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, an Israeli campaign group, stated that she enjoys traveling, singing, photography, and cooking.

Her parents, Shira and Eli Albag, have pushed for the hostages’ release.

Karina Ariev, 20.

Karina Ariev was kidnapped while performing military service on the Gaza border.

A video of her capture showed her being injured. In January 2024, she appeared in a new Hamas Telegram video alongside prisoner Daniella Gilboa. She turned 20 while in captivity.

“She aspires to be a psychotherapist and is recognized for her compassion and ability to bring people together,” the Hostage and Missing Families Forum wrote.

Daniella Gilboa, twenty.

Daniella Gilboa, a Petah Tikva resident, was kidnapped while serving in the military at the Gaza border.

The clothes she was wearing in videos she sent to her lover on the morning of the attack revealed her status as a captive.

Gilboa, who turned 20 while in captivity, was depicted alongside hostage Karina Ariev in a Hamas video posted on the social media platform Telegram in January 2024.

Gilboa “is a dedicated musician who studies piano and singing with the goal of pursuing a professional career in music,” according to the forum.

Naama Levy, twenty.

Naama Levy, now 20, was kidnapped while performing military service along the Gaza border.

Hamas posted a video of her capture in which she is led to a car while wearing blood-stained trousers. Other photographs show the grandchild of Nazi death camp survivors with a swollen face.

She is the second of four children and grew up in India, where she attended a US international school. As a child, she participated in the Hands of Peace campaign, which promotes peace between young Israelis and Palestinians.

She is an enthusiastic triathlete.

“Family and friends describe her as kind and quiet, but full of light, joy, strength, and determination,” the forum stated.
